With 40% of energy produced being consumed by buildings, and over 50% of buildings operating at less than 60% efficiency, making buildings energy efficient and sustainable are top-of-mind issues for property owners and managers. During the design, construction and facility maintenance phases, Black & McDonald provides invaluable design critique and advice to ensure maintainability of systems and components, with interoperability to maximize system control and performance, critical for sustainable operations over the facility's whole life plan.

	First Canadian Place Toronto, ON First Canadian Place, Toronto, ON Black & McDonald provided complete in-building wireless coverage of the entire complex for TELUS Mobility cellular PCS and iDEN voice networks in addition to full public Wi-Fi high speed data. The project consisted of installation and testing of all horizontal implementation requirements including conduit, coaxial and LAN cabling, antennas and power dividers in addition to floor specific equipment positioning and power. The implementation required a significant coordinative effort with Olympia & York and each individual tenant, making communication the key to success. Owner: Olympia & York Engineer: TELUS Mobility
	Mara Properties Kitchener, ON Black & McDonald worked with the property managers at two locations to design and install a replacement Hydrotherm heating system. The existing configurations were extensively revised with respect to both hot water piping and venting. The project utilized HVAC, electrical, plumbing and sheet metal trades. Owner: Mara Investments
	The Hyland Scarborough, ON The scope of work for Black & McDonald on this project included the removal of an existing chiller and pump and the supply and installation of two 125 ton cooled rotary chillers, a forced draft cooling tower and all associated pumps, piping and insulation.
